“I don’t want to hear another word, Don’t need your well thought out advice, Though I thank you all for being kind I can make mistakes myself just fine”
Don Williams scored a top-five hit on the Billboard Country Music Charts with his 1982 single “Mistakes.” This song, written by Richard Feldman, tells of a man wanting to restart a failed relationship in spite of warnings from his friends not to do so. The man is determined to try reconciling with his former girlfriend regardless of anyone else’s opinions.
People often regret ending relationships for various reasons. Some people later regret such action and seek a second chance with that person. However, forgiveness and reconciliation do not always occur. Many people have the attitude of “once a traitor, always a traitor.” Other people believe that a person has changed his or her ways, and they grant said person another chance. One sees such things in romantic relationships, but what about such things in one’s relationship with God?
God knows that all people sin and fall short of his glory (Romans 3:23). People make mistakes themselves just fine. However, God desires no one should perish, but that people repent and return to him (Second Peter 3:9). God allows Christians to confess their wrongs to him and be forgiven (First John 1:9). Jesus reminds Peter to forgive his brother up to seventy times seven (Matthew 18:22), but God forgives those who repent far more than 490 times. Praise Him!
Have you experienced the goodness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? If not, will you obey the gospel commands to believe, repent, confess, and be baptized for the remission of sins? If you have, will you continue faithfully doing the Lord’s will until death? Do not let mistakes stop you, but always repent and be forgiven. God bless every reader as we continue growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus.
